Maldonado says crash was 'unlucky'
Pastor Maldonado believes he was unlucky to crash out of second practice for the Belgian Grand Prix after saying wheelspin exiting Malmedy caused him to run onto the grass.
Maldonado crashed on the straight after running wide onto the grass, causing him to lose control of the car and make heavy contact with the wall that brought out a red flag. But rather than take the blame or shift it to the car, Maldonado was more content with putting it down to bad luck.
"Today it was 50/50, I just lost the car from the beginning because of the wheelspin and I touched the grass, so a bit unlucky," he said. "Nothing related to the car or from my side, it was unlucky.
"It's difficult to drive. It was the first lap on cold tyres. It was a bit from my side, it was a bit from the car … it happened."
Maldonado said he was given the all-clear by the doctors at the circuit: "I went for a quick check-up and I was okay and the doctor said I didn't need to be there. It was not a big shunt, for sure it looks big, but it was not actually big."
