Lewis Hamilton confessed himself satisfied to be on the front row for the Belgian Grand Prix after setting his best effort on his final qualifying lap.
After struggling on his opening lap, Hamilton made the most of his tyres to finish just .085s off Webber's pole time.
"On my first run in Q3, I was the first driver into Turn 14, and the track was drying but still a bit wet, so I didn't push hard enough and lost ground - maybe half a second," said Hamilton. "I thought we could have got pole, but I went a bit wide at La Source on my final run.
"There was one little patch of rain over Turn 1, so it was a bit slippery, and I lost about three and a half tenths there. But I was able to extract some good time from the tyres in the second and third sectors - and that's where I made up the time I lost in sector one."
With Hamilton only four points behind Webber and six ahead of Sebastian Vettel in the title fight, he is aware there will be a fine line between aggression and caution on race day.
"We are on the front row - the positive thing is we are up there and in for the fight. I will be aggressive, but I have to be cautious at the same time. Tomorrow is a different day - we don't know if it will rain or be dry, but we are in a good position to get good points."
