Khan hoping to anger Bradley by fighting Morales

Amir Khan is hoping to convince Erik Morales that he is a more lucrative fight than Timothy Bradley, as the WBA and IBF champion looks to secure his next opponent.

Khan, who defeated Zab Judah to unify light-welterweight titles on his last appearance in July, has long hoped to face Bradley - the other consensus thoroughbred boxer in the weight class. But Bradley has so far been reluctant to enter negotiations with the Bolton-born fighter - eventually seeing his WBC crown stripped from him as a result of his inactivity - and Khan has now turned his attention to the experienced Morales.

Bradley has also been linked with a return to the ring against the Mexican - who has fought Manny Pacquiao three times in his career and is currently preparing to take on Lucas Matthysse for Bradley's vacated belt - but Khan hopes he can prove the more persuasive in getting the 34-year-old into the ring.

"If Bradley fights Morales next that would be frustrating because I've been calling Bradley out, but he doesn't want to fight me," Khan said. "It depends on Morales, he can make more money fighting me than Bradley and it would be a bigger fight as well."

The 24-year-old has dismissed any prospect of a forthcoming rematch with Marcos Maidana - who he beat in a stand-up war in Las Vegas back in 2010.

"Maidana's been saying I'm avoiding him and don't want to fight him, but he was my mandatory a year ago and I beat him fair and square," he said. "Now he wants a rematch but I've got bigger fish to fry. There are other names I want and I want them quickly because they might not be there again.

"If I was to fight Maidana again I'd beat him again, only more convincingly this time. It would be easier because I know exactly what he does and I wouldn't make any of the mistakes I did in the first fight.

"It could happen in the future but there are other names I want first."

Golden Boy promotions chief Richard Schaefer admitted that Khan is likely to get his wish and face the winner of Morales-Matthysse. Khan has a number of mandatory challengers waiting in the wings but, with a move up to the 147-pound welterweight division on the horizon, that is less of a concern.

"It's very likely Amir will face the winner, particularly if it is Morales," Schaefer said. "The question facing Amir is that he has two mandatories waiting, one of them is Lamont Peterson and the other is the winner of Maidana against Robert Guerrero later this month."

A move up to the welterweight division should see a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jnr inside the next year, and Schaefer is hopeful Khan will be able to contest two successive fights - one of them against the American - on home shores.

"We are trying to locate a March date for Amir to come and fight here in the UK," he added. "After that, all being well, he will fight Mayweather some time after the summer.

"For that fight we'll be looking at the economics to see how we can stage it here. Mayweather has made it clear to me that he wants a big fight at Wembley Stadium. That would be massive."
