BBBoC to give Chisora chance to defend himself

The British Boxing Board of Control will not follow the WBC's lead by slapping an instant suspension on Dereck Chisora, revealing on Friday that the Brit will be given a chance to defend his recent actions.

Chisora brought the sport of boxing into disrepute following his antics at a WBC heavyweight title bout with Vitali Klitschko in Germany. A pre-fight slap at the weigh-in was followed by a post-fight brawl with David Haye, while Chisora was also seen spitting water in the face of Klitschko's brother Wladimir.

The WBC responded by banning him from competing for a WBC title for an indefinite period of time. Chisora will also be hit with a fine and asked to seek anger management treatment.

Such punishment sparked an angry reply from Chisora's promoter Frank Warren, who claimed the Brit had been given no chance to explain or defend his actions.

Now Chisora is awaiting a March 14 hearing with the BBBoC, where he could face additional sanctions. However, he has been assured that he will be given every chance to make his case in front of the disciplinary board.

"We have a procedure which we follow. The WBC has not gone through a disciplinary procedure but we will," BBBoC secretary Robert Smith was quoted as saying by Boxing News.

"The board will decide if Chisora gets a suspension or not at a hearing. Chisora and Frank Warren will be there. We will consider all evidence.

"These things take time to make sure you give them a chance to be legally represented and compile evidence."
