Free practice 3

Hello and welcome to live coverage of the final free practice session of the season, brought to you by ESPNF1. After two dry sessions yesterday, it looks like this final hour will also stay dry, but rain is on the way...

The current forecast is for thundery showers this afternoon, so qualifying is likely to be run in very different conditions, while the race looks fairly certain to be wet. As certain as you can be when it comes to predicting the weather, that is

So, who can we expect to see quickest this morning? Well, it's going to be very close if yesterday's running is anything to go by, after Lewis Hamilton set the fastest time of the day

Hamilton may not be the most popular man with the Brazilian fans after his numerous incidents with Felipe Massa, but they'll probably be quite pleased with his special Ayrton Senna tribute helmet design this weekend

There's also a pretty brilliant effort from Tonio Liuzzi, who has a chalky helmet this weekend. I'm pretty sure that needs to become an end of season award title...

Our latest weather forecast from the track comes courtesy of Lotus' Mike Gascoyne: "10 mins from FP3. Currently a lovely day here but with more cloud about but the forecasts say the rain is coming, its just a case of when"

The first images from the circuit show that its pretty grey on the horizon but sunny at the circuit at the moment. It's hot over there too with air temperature at 27C and track temperature at 38C.

Nelson Piquet is in the paddock this weekend at his home grand prix. He will be demonstrating one of his/Bernie Ecclestone's Brabhams this weekend.

The session is under way with Kamui Kobayahsi leading a train of cars out onto the circuit.

11 cars head straight out in total get their Saturday morning programmes underway with an installation lap.

Pirelli says: "Ambient temperature is up to 27 degrees centigrade, Meteo France reports no risk of rain in the short term, but who knows in qualifying..."

Ferrari's plans for the morning: "Green light. As usual Saturday morning the focus will be on the preparation of the Q session. Fernando passed through the pit lane for a practice start and then he is heading back to the garage, where Felipe is back now."

No times have been set so far as all the cars return to the pits after their installation laps.

Senna heads back out on track in the Renault. The team has been struggling a bit in recent races and look as it will be outside the top ten in qualifying again today. Force India now appears to have the fifth fastest car behind Mercedes.

Pirelli says: "We'll expect the drivers to start off with the P Zero White tyre and then move onto the P Zero Yellow later in the session."

Senna has now set a time with a 1:16.622 but is going faster on his next lap.

Senna improves to a 1:15.491 in front of his home fans. He's currently on the medium tyres.

Petrov improves to a 1:14.654 in the other Renault but now we've got Button, Vettel and Hamilton on track.

Alonso is in the garage as his mechanics work on his rear wing. According to the BBC he had a problem with his DRS on his installation lap and the Ferrari boys are now making a quick fix.

Hamilton goes straight to the top of the timings with a 1:13.988 but Vettel is even quicker on his first lap with a 1:13.754.

Button reasserts McLaren at the top of the timings with a 1:13.442.

Meanwhile, Buemi is returning to the pits at a very slow speed and clearly had some sort of problem.

The scrap at the top continues with Vettel now fastest on a 1:13.186 but has now returned to the pits.

Schumacher and Rosberg are hoping to be in the hunt in the Mercedes this weekend. At the moment they are about a second off the pace but looked closer towards the end of yesterday's session and Alonso admitted he was keeping one eye on them ahead of qualifying.

Today's lap times are already quicker than Friday's and we haven't seen anybody on the soft tyres yet. Of course it could all go out the window if it rains in qualifying, but we should see lap times in the 1:11s if it stays dry. Last year the cars were in the 1:11s by the end of FP2 but it then rained on Saturday.

Pirelli says: "As one of the shortest laps of the year, the difference between the two compounds is minimised here. Should be fascinating for strategy."

Alonso improves to fifth in the Ferrari but is still 0.590s off Vettel's 1:13.186. Just six cars out on the track at the moment, two of which are the Ferraris.

Buemi has a hydraulics leak and is hoping to get out again before the end of the session, but it's going to be a push for the team to turn it around.

Senna also has a problem with his Renault: "We're checking over the right hand side of Bruno's engine at the moment as the data was showing something amiss. Exhaust looks good"

The McLarens are back on track but still no sign of the soft tyres.

Schumacher has bolted on a set of softs and is attacking the pit straight with his DRS wide open.

Schumacher sets a 1:13.393 on his first soft tyre lap but backs off in the first sector of his next lap.

Rosberg is even quicker in the second Mercedes and registers the third fastest lap overall with a 1:13.286, 0.100s off Vettel on the medium tyres.

Rosberg told to look after his new soft tyres as they notice his pressures creeping above the optimum level. He's currently the fastest man in the first sector, but can't improve overall.

Sutil posts a decent time to go fifth fastest in the Force India. He's 0.204s off Vettel but was using the soft tyres. Vettel is currently in the pits while team-mate Webber continues to pound round on medium tyres.

Webber has gone fastest on his medium tyres with a 1:13.154, impressive considering he's on his 14th lap on those tyres.

Still problems with Senna's Renault which remains in the pits: "We're looking closely at the data from Bruno's engine to see if the earlier gremlin has disappeared"

Sutil is now fastest with a 1:13.113 on the soft tyres. Could he worry the Mercedes this weekend?

13 minutes to go so we should see soft tyre laps from the top drivers soon.

In the midst of all that we saw Petrov hold on to a huge slide at turn four. He had to apply two armfuls of opposite lock to keep it all pointing in the right direction.

Renault adds: "We're also looking at Bruno's rear wing."

Alonso is out on the softs and has most of the track to himself. But that won't last for long...

Alonso pops up at the top of the timing screens with a 1:12.765, but that's only 0.348s faster than Sutil.

Massa is also out on softs but comes across a lot of traffic and aborts his first attempt.

Hamilton is fastest in the first two sectors and sets a new fastest time with a 1:12.622, 0.143s up on Alonso who is struggling to keep the rear of his Ferrari in check in the Senna Esses.

Vettel puts his soft tyres to good use with a 1:12.508. Webber is third with a 1:12.641.

Button can only set the fifth best time on his soft tyre lap but did come across traffic.

Hamilton improves on his first and final sectors but couldn't beat his previous middle sector and remains second.

Buemi is back in his shirt and shorts and will not take place in the rest of this session.

Vettel improves ever so slightly with a 1:12.460.

Hamilton has returned to the pits but heads straight back out.

Button is still struggling with traffic and remains fifth fastest behind Alonso. Webber has now set the fastest first sector of all.

Hamilton and Alonso have returned to the pits for good.

Button imrpoves to second with a 1:12.547 as he finally gets some free air. Webber improves to third but is 0.137s off Vettel.

The chequered flag falls on the session but not before a bit of drama in the pit lane as Schumacher has to overtake a slow moving Felipe Massa to avoid a collision.

Vettel's time is safe and he finishes the session just 0.087s up on Button. Webber was 0.137s off Vettel with Hamilton in close contention in fourth. It's tight at the top.

Thanks for joining us, we should be set up for a thrilling qualifying hour - especially if the forecast rain shows up - so make sure you join us in two hours' time.
