Hamilton positive for 2012 despite Brazil retirement

Lewis Hamilton is feeling good going into the winter break even though he had to retire from the final race in Brazil with a gearbox problem on lap 47.

Hamilton dropped to fifth at the start and was fighting for that position with Felipe Massa when his gearbox gave in and forced him to coast to a halt. He said the problem started to develop early in the race but he still enjoyed going wheel-to-wheel with his rivals.

"It's been an interesting year and today I gave it my all and enjoyed the race," he told the BBC. "It was a little bit unfortunate for the team not to get the extra points, but I enjoyed racing out there. I was challenging right to the end even though the gearbox problem came on quite early. I was struggling with gears throughout."

He said he was looking forward to the winter but said he was still feeling positive after one of the most testing seasons of his career.

"It's been a long, long year and I'm looking forward to a bit of downtime and some time family and friends, some training and then just attacking next year," Hamilton added. "I've got lots I can improve on but I still feel positive even though we didn't have a great result today."
