Rubens Barrichello said his qualifying lap for the Brazilian Grand Prix felt like a pole position lap as he wrestled his Williams to 12th on the grid.

Barrichello has only qualified higher than 12th once this season and, given his recent struggles with the car, said it was one of his best qualifying sessions of the season.

"It was a great, great feeling," he said. "You're always there or there abouts, but it's been a tough year with the car we've had. But when you're at home … you have to use it when it's on your side, and the public and everyone, I used it to the best I could. It was a lap that I'm pretty sure was like a pole position lap in that car! I'm really pleased."

But he is wary of the challenge that lies ahead in Sunday's race, which could be his last as Williams looks set to opt for a different driver next year.

"Tomorrow is another 71 laps I have to do," he added. "That lap I completed today, I have to do another 71 like that. I hope we have a little bit of rain tomorrow and that will excite everyone in the crowd. I'm sure they won't mind and they will bring their umbrellas."
