Kimi Raikkonen says Lotus struggled to switch on the Pirelli tyres for a quick lap during practice for the Canadian Grand Prix.

Raikkonen was well down the timesheets during FP2 as he ended up 11th quickest after the super-soft tyre runs. While Lotus looks competitive Raikkonen said he was not overly concerned about his final position because of the close nature of the field but admitted Lotus needed to work on the tyres to find more time.

"I think we got more or less everything you can get in one day," Raikkonen said. "It was pretty OK, obviously the lap time was maybe not the fastest but it's very close here between everybody; if you go three tenths faster you gain a lot places. I think the car is not too bad but we have some issues still to get the tyres working as we want. If we get the tyres working better it makes a much bigger difference than any small set-up thing so I think we just have to work on that a little bit."

Asked what the issue with the tyres is, Raikkonen replied: "To get the tyres to switch on.

"It's a similar story to in Monaco; we were pretty OK but obviously we weren't fast enough in qualifying and it's purely because we couldn't get the tyre working on one lap. If you can make that work it makes a massive difference, so it's a normal thing and hopefully we'll get them working but I think we are pretty much where we've been in the other races."
