Valtteri Bottas believes his third place in qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix is "a nice boost" for Williams after a poor start to the season for the team.

Williams has been well off the pace so far this year and has yet to score a point in the opening six races of the season. However, Bottas delivered a superb performance in changeable conditions in Montreal to qualify in third place and said the team made the most of the conditions to secure the best grid position of his short career so far.

"Of course it means a lot," Bottas said. "It's way more up in the grid than we could really ever imagine. It's been so difficult in the first six races for us and this will be a nice boost for the team. We really got everything quite right today."

Bottas added that even with the wet conditions he hadn't expected to qualify so high up.

"It's a great boost for the team. It's a result no-one really expected - of course you always hope to do well - but really surprised that it really happened we were third, so I'm very happy."
