Raikkonen baffled by inconsistent Ferrari
Kimi Raikkonen says he has no explanation why he was unable to find a rhythm from his Ferrari in Canada as he recorded laboured to a tenth-place finish.
Raikkonen was out of the points until the big crash between Felipe Massa and Sergio Perez on the final lap, having struggled for much of the race with his brakes and his tyres at various points. Raikkonen says the car seemed to feel different lap-by-lap and was at a loss to explain why.
"It seems to change," Raikkonen said. "It can feel very difficult one lap and then suddenly a few laps later it's like the tyres work better. I cannot explain it or tell the reason otherwise we would know also. It seemed to have turned to being pretty ok again [by the end] but I don't know, we have to look into those things.
"At the start it felt ok, then the tyres go away and then we change the tyres and it feels ok next lap, but it's hard to say. We had to follow a lot of people which didn't help, then suddenly it feels like the tyres are going away and then the next lap it's a different story so it's very difficult to understand what is going on."
Much like in Friday practice Raikkonen spun while coming through the Turn 10 hairpin, which he feels summed up his race.
"We had some brake issues at the start and then I spun, the same as practice. For some reason I seemed to get a big kick suddenly and spun. It was difficult overall and quite a difficult race. We got one point but not what we wanted."
For the second race in a row Raikkonen is also unhappy with the stewards, after Daniil Kvyat appeared to overshoot the final chicane while Raikkonen was passing him to stay ahead on lap 22, a move which earned no penalty for Toro Rosso driver. Raikkonen says it is another example of why he was so far off the pace in Montreal.
"I seemed to get stuck behind people. I got past the Toro Rosso and he went straight on at the chicane, but even though I was next to him and in the chicane for some reason this was ok. Then I had to fight with him again and lost pace, that was before [the stewards] even decided that it was fine, and then passed him.
"Every time I came out of the pit stop people were always in front of me which was not very good. The car felt a bit better again and was fast but it was just difficult."
