Petrov eyeing midfield battle with updates
Vitaly Petrov believes Caterham can fight with the midfield if its update package works as expected at Silverstone.
Heikki Kovalainen outqualified both Toro Rossos at the European Grand Prix, while Petrov was even running in tenth place at one point and on for a strong result before a late collision with Daniel Ricciardo caused him to pit again. Despite that step forward last time out, Petrov said that the bigger update would be run at Silverstone this weekend.
"We didn't bring so many updates to Valencia," Petrov said. "We just had a front wing and slight bits of bodywork, but here we bring new rear bodywork and new exhausts, some new front wings and rear wings so we have quite a big update here."
When asked what opportunities that could open up for Caterham, Petrov said that if the update delivers the expected results then he was optimistic.
"First of all we need to see how these upgrades will work this weekend. We know the weather will not be fantastic here, that's disappointing and we didn't do that much work in our straight-line test because it was heavy rain. But all the 24 cars now are quite close to each other and quite competitive, I think if we gain something then definitely we can be more competitive than the last race with the guys in front. So I hope these upgrades will give us some good feedback and then we can fight with the cars in front."
