Welcome to ESPN's live coverage of the title showdown in Abu Dhabi --------------------------------- 16:59: Hamilton leads the field away and the formation lap has begin. Not long to go now. Who will come away with the 2016 F1 title? Stay with ESPN to find out. --- 16:56: Just a few minutes to go until the formation lap gets underway. --- 16:53 The drivers are heading to the grid and getting into their respective cars. We are just over five minutes away. --- 16:50: Behind the Mercedes duo, Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo (3rd), Ferrari pair Kimi Raikkonen (4th) and Sebastian Vettel (5th), and Max Verstappen (6th) could all play a deciding factor in the championship showdown, if they can challenge Mercedes. --- 16:45: 15 minutes to go until lights out in the final race of 2016. --- 16:43: Reliability could prove to be a deciding factor in this race too. If Hamilton suffers a DNF his title hopes are over, while any problems for Rosberg -- similar to the engine problems he suffered here in 2014 -- could swing the momentum right back into Hamilton's favour. --- 16:40: Of course there are a number of different title permutations but to put it simply, Rosberg just needs a podium finish while a win provides Hamilton with his best chance, if Rosberg finishes fourth or lower. --- 16:35: Hamilton starts on pole, with Rosberg 0.3s further back in second. Hamilton's title hopes are out of his hands and even taking a victory today would not guarantee him his fourth world title. A podium finish for Rosberg would see him seal his maiden title, regardless of where Hamilton finishes. --- 16:31: Here we go then, it's all come down to this. One of either Nico Rosberg or Lewis Hamilton will be crowned F1 world champion later today. --- |
