Paul Hembery says Pirelli's multiple tyre failures at the British Grand Prix were caused by a new type of problem with its tyres.

Pirelli has suffered several instances of delamination so far this season and has been working to resolve the issue. However, the tyre blow outs at the high-speed Silverstone saw dramatic blow outs on four cars, all on the left rear.

Pirelli motorsport director Hembery said the issues were something new this weekend and that he could not add any more until further analysis is done.

"Today wasn't foreseen," he said. "We've seen something new and a different type of problem. We're currently performing analysis because we need to understand what has happened today. When we have got the facts we can understand what has happened and get to the core of the issue. We take these things seriously and when we have the answers we will let you know.

"It was on tyre at the back, the left rear, and we need to understand that. It's pointless me adding anything else until we have all the facts."
