Button: Third caps 'emotional' weekend
Jenson Button insists a podium at the Australian Grand Prix was the perfect ending to the first race since the death of his father John in January.
Button moved up to third in the wake of Daniel Ricciardo's disqualification, meaning he would have joined debutant team-mate Kevin Magnussen on the podium alongside race-winner Nico Rosberg. By securing second and third McLaren went first in the constructors' championship, a remarkable turnaround after failing to secure a podium throughout the entire 2013 season.
Despite missing out on his chance to celebrate on the podium Button admits he is happy to take the points from his revised place in the standings.
"Obviously I'm pleased to have moved up to third, and it's good for Kevin [Magnussen] that he's moved up to second," said Button. "More important still, it's very positive that we now have 33 points in the constructors' world championship, which is eight points clear of the next team.
"I'll be honest: this weekend has been an emotional one for me, and the support I've had has been brilliant. That being the case, it would have been a real bonus if I could have celebrated my third place from the podium, alongside Nico and Kevin. But I really feel for Daniel, who drove a great race in his first race for his new team, in front of his home crowd."
