Hamilton returns to form in China
After his rough-edged drive in Japan, Lewis Hamilton was back at his best in China where he took the 200th win for a British driver in the Formula One World Championship. Having qualified on pole position, Hamilton was only knocked off the race lead during the pit stops as he comfortably took a fifth win of the season.
"It was pretty straightforward, really," he said post-race. "The start was one of the best I have made all season and the car's balance was very good. It was good to pull away as I did."
Kimi Raikkonen was powerless to stop Hamilton breaking away, admitting the McLaren was the better car on the day. Having lost 2.5 seconds to Hamilton on his out lap from his first pit stop, Raikkonen then slowed to enable Felipe Massa ahead and help his team-mate in the championship. With team orders banned, Massa said he won due to a very good final stint allowing him to catch his team mate. Cynics nodded, sagely.
The result put Massa second and while he was in touch with Hamilton, the championship gap meant that all Hamilton needed was to finish in the top five to take the title.
