Profile
HWM, under co-owners George Abecassis and John Heath, started a racing team in 1946 with an Alta-engined car and called it an HWM, after their garage, based in Walton-on-Thames, England (Herham and Walton Motors). It entered Formula One in 1951 and continued in that and sports car racing through to 1956 when Heath was killed on the Mille Miglia in Italy. Abecassis discontinued the team soon after and concentrated on the garage business. Although he sold out in the 1970s the garage continues to run as an Aston Martin dealer.
