Felipe Massa has warned not to read too much into Ferrari's impressive pace during Friday practice for the German Grand Prix.

Fernando Alonso topped the timesheets while Massa split the Red Bulls in third place. The car was the fastest in dry conditions but was also quick in the wet morning session, despite Massa spinning several times.

"A good start to the weekend here in Hockenheim, but it is still much too soon to say where we are compared to our main opponents," he said. "The changing weather conditions will play an important role and we must be as well prepared as possible to tackle the various possible scenarios: for example if qualifying takes place in the wet and the race in the dry."

Massa has struggled to get his tyres up to temperature in qualifying this season and said that he was still not comfortable on Bridgestone's harder compound this weekend.

"It will be important to understand the behaviour of the tyres and from what we can gather in similar conditions, the softs are pretty good, while the hards are definitely too hard for this track."
