Alonso wary of changeable weather
Fernando Alonso believes the characteristics of Silverstone should suit Ferrari but is wary that the weather conditions could affect its competitiveness.
Despite winning the European Grand Prix in Valencia, Alonso didn't have the quickest car as both he and Ferrari team-mate Felipe Massa failed to qualify in the top ten. While the F2012 was uncompetitive at the start of the season it was strong in the fast corners, and heading to the high-speed Silverstone circuit Alonso said he was hopeful of being quick.
"Looking at the characteristics of the circuit I think Silverstone should be a little bit better for us," Alonso said. "It should suit our car characteristics a little bit better as we saw at the beginning of the year in the high-speed corners and also as we saw at Mugello that the car was performing quite well. So hopefully we'll see a good Ferrari here this weekend with me and Felipe, and we'll see."
Alonso admitted, however, that the weather could play a big part and said Ferrari would have to be "prepared" for any conditions.
"I think it all depends also on the weather. We know that here anything can happen, maybe there'll be more rain than dry times looking at the forecast, so we have to prepare for it all. We need to be prepared for any track conditions at any time and try to have a smooth qualifying. That will obviously not be easy when the weather is changing so you need to be in the right moment on track to do the lap. And then the race, we will try to score as many points as possible and hopefully the car is performing well here."
