Hamilton 'excited' by McLaren upgrades
Lewis Hamilton admits he is "really excited" by the prospect of McLaren's upgrades for the British Grand Prix this weekend.
Red Bull stole a march on its rivals by unveiling a major update to its RB8 in Valencia which saw it take pole position. Sebastian Vettel pulled away at around a second per lap before retiring but McLaren is confident that the same advantage won't be displayed once it runs its updates at Silverstone, although Hamilton warned that he was unsure if they would close the gap completely.
"We definitely have some upgrades, so I'm really excited to see how it behaves on the car and if they actually deliver what we think they're going to deliver," Hamilton said. "But I don't know if it's as big as what [Red Bull] brought at the last race, who knows. I think our car generally goes a little bit better in the high-speed circuits than it does at low-speed circuits, so fingers crossed it will be a little bit stronger this weekend."
After being taken out from third place on the penultimate lap at Valencia, Hamilton insisted he wouldn't change his approach to racing despite the need for consistent points this season.
"I haven't changed anything from the beginning of the season. Everything's still the same and of course things don't always go to plan but that's life. I'm excited now that we have another race, and we have so many races ahead of us that we have still got plenty of opportunity to continue fighting for this championship. That's what's so exciting and again that's what racing is all about."
