United to tempt Vidic with 12-month deal

Manchester United are reportedly trying to tempt captain Nemanja Vidic to stay at the club with a 12-month contract extension.

United boss David Moyes is set to lose centre-back Rio Ferdinand and left-back Patrice Evra on frees this summer, but has told the club's hierarchy to make a last-ditch attempt to keep Vidic, according to the Daily Mirror.

Vidic's future has been the subject of speculation with his agent Silvano Martina claiming the defender would not stay.

The 32-year-old, who joined United from Spartak Moscow in 2006, will be available on a free transfer at the end of the season and has been linked with Galatasaray, Juventus, Roma, Napoli and Monaco.

Galatasaray boss Roberto Mancini admitted he is an admirer of Vidic but insists he will not move for him in the January transfer window.

Mancini said: "Every manager would want a player as experienced as Vidic on their team.

"He is the type of player who can really make a difference, however, I need a player who can play Champions League football.

"It doesn't matter how good he is I need a player ahead for the Champions League urgently and as a result Vidic isn't in our plans."
