Hull City have rejected another bid for midfielder Stephen Hunt, confirmed as being worth £5 million from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has been tracking Hunt throughout January and has tabled several bids to try and prise the player away from the KC Stadium.
With Hull in financial turmoil and needing to slice £6 million off the wage bill it was thought a deal could be in the offing. But City manager Phil Brown always insisted there would be no chance of his best players being allowed to move mid-season.
A statement released on Hull's official website read: "In response to further released speculation, the club have received a verbal offer of £5 million for Stephen Hunt. This has been completely rejected and we are not expecting any further bids."
Hunt only joined the Tigers in the summer and has been one of their star performers. The 28-year-old has bagged six Premier League goals so far this term, making him the club's top scorer, and he netted against Wolves in Saturday's 2-2 draw in East Yorkshire.
It is now expected that Hull will open talks with Hunt over a new contract.
