Stoke have completed a £3.25 million deal for Portsmouth goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.

The Bosnian international signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with the Potters shortly before the transfer window closed.

A fortnight ago Pulis twice tried to sign Begovic's team-mate David James on loan from the cash-strapped south-coast club. However, the deal broke down after an issue over the player's wages.

"Asmir is someone we have been tracking for some time and we believe that potentially he is the best young goalkeeper in the country," said Stoke manager Tony Pulis.

"It has been an eventful time for me, one way or another, but I am delighted to be joining Stoke because it is a Club moving forward," said the 'keeper. I was aware of interest from one or two clubs, but once I found out that Stoke wanted to sign me, I was convinced that it was right move for me."
