Holloway 'insulted' by Adam offers

Blackpool manager Ian Holloway has sent an aggressive hands-off warning about Charlie Adam, hitting out at "insulting" bids and saying he will only sell him to a top Premier League club.

Adam has been one of the revelations of the season, and starred during Blackpool's 2-1 defeat of Liverpool at Bloomfield Road on Wednesday night. With 18 months left on his contract, Adam is already starting to attract interest. One club, reportedly Aston Villa, have made a £3.5million bid for the 25-year-old but Holloway will not even consider it.

"I want him to go to a club which is not struggling, it's always been my goal to get him to one of the top five or six clubs,'' he said. "He wants one day to go to a bigger club than us and, where we are in the league [ninth], there aren't too many. I want him to go to a place where he is likely to win, where he is not going to plug a hole and his manager is in a solid position. I want him to go to a place where he is loved, cherished and appreciated and that is certainly not any of the teams that have rung up about him so far.

"No disrespect to them but they are wasting their time. They can shove their bid wherever they like it because if they think he is only worth £3.5million they are watching a different game to the one I am. If they want to insult me by offering £3.5million then, sorry, they are barking up the wrong tree, they are messing with the wrong dog. I've seen what he does and some of it is genius - and you don't get genius cheap.''

Liverpool have also been linked with Adam and Holloway admitted that, despite their struggles this season, slipping to a 10th defeat in 21 Premier League matches, he still considers them a top club.

"Liverpool haven't made any enquiries but I'd be surprised after last night because I thought he was terrific,'' he added. "They would be the only exception, with where they are in the table, I would look at it differently but no-one else. I think he owes us to stay and then he will have a choice as long as his arm. If Manchester United ring me up tomorrow and make me a realistic offer I might have to consider it but until them - dream on. I asked him to think about why, in the summer, why can't he move to one of these monster teams after helping us stay up.''

Blackpool came from a goal behind to beat Liverpool 2-1 for the second time this season. Fernando Torres had given his side the ideal start by firing home in only the third minute but Gary Taylor-Fletcher equalised soon after and DJ Campbell struck the winner with 21 minutes to go.
