The Scot has secured almost every accolade open to a European golfer, aside from that elusive Major.
Montgomerie has been crowned the Order of Merit champion on eight occasions, has played in eight Ryder Cups and is the winning-most European player in the Ryder Cup - being on the victorious team on five occasions.
The Perthshire resident has racked up more European Tour wins than any other player - with his victory at The European Open in 2007 taking him past Nick Faldo and on to 31 wins.
Montgomerie racked up five wins in 1999 and was never out of the top 20 in any tournament that year. The Major title eludes him though and on five occasions he has finished in second place - twice losing in a play-off.
The Ryder Cup is dear to Montgomerie's heart, he is the third highest points scorer for Europe, and his unbeaten run in singles stretches back to 1991. He translated that form to captaincy as he masterminded a thrilling 14½-13½ win over USA at Celtic Manor.
Career high: Missing out on a Major eats away at the Scot, but his record at the Ryder Cup stands up to the closest scrutiny. He has never been beaten in a singles game and sank the winning putt in 2004. Career low: Montgomerie passed up a gilt-edged chance to secure Major glory at the 2006 US Open. He led by one shot with his ball sat nicely in the middle of the 18th fairway, but played an awful approach into the rough. A chip and three putts later saw him lose by one shot to Geoff Ogilvy. Trivia: Not quite on the Ian Poulter level, but Monty has his own range of clothing under the Peter Scott brand. Quote: On the 2010 Ryder Cup, he said: "This means the world to everyone involved in the European Tour. I am so glad we won. I didn't hit a shot, yet it is a proud, proud moment for me personally. It's an amazing feeling to have won."
