Perhaps best known for his outlandish attire, Rickie Fowler catapulted himself infront of golf's wider audience - identifying himself as a potential major winner - with his first PGA Tour victory at the high-profile Wells Fargo Championship in 2012.
While his traditional Sunday attire (bright orange - the colour of his university, Oklahoma State - from head-to-toe, including a distinctive flat-brim cap) brought him attention even as a tour rookie, Fowler has been making waves with his golf almost just as long. A first tour win at Memorial in 2010 only barely eluded him, before he underlined his talent at the Ryder Cup later that year - coming back from four-down to steal a half in Sunday's singles against Edoardo Molinari.
For those achievements and others, he pipped Rory McIlroy - a rival he has since been compared with regularly - to be named the PGA Tour's rookie of the year.
2011 saw a slower, steadier form of progress; as McIlroy became a major winner, Fowler had to wait until the low-profile Korea Open at the tail-end of the season to claim his first victory as a professional. He did show signs of improvement in the majors, however, outshining McIlroy completely at the Open Championship to claim a top-five finish.
2012 saw his real breakthrough, however, as he birdied the second hole of a play-off to beat McIlroy and win at Quail Hollow (where McIlroy had opened his US account two years earlier). A runner-up finish at The Players Championship followed a week later - the next target for Fowler is to establish himself in the world's top ten and add to his victory tally.
