Paul Casey has the potential to be a threat to all at the Majors, having worked his way through the ranks after turning pro in 2000.

Casey secured a breakthrough success in his first season on Tour, winning the Gleneagles Scottish PGA Championship. His win at Wentworth in the BMW PGA Championship in 2009, which followed a maiden US PGA Tour success at the Shell Houston Open, propelled him into the world's top ten and he ended 2009 in seventh place.

Casey had a disappointing year in the Majors in 2009, but he boasts top ten finishes in the Masters and US PGA Championship and is a vital member of the European Ryder Cup team.

At the 2010 Open, he pushed eventual winner Louis Oosthuizen over the first three rounds before he unravelled when the pressure was at its most acute on Sunday. He still managed a third-place finish, which was his only top ten at the majors in that year - one that was played on the back of a serious injury the previous year.

He has played at three Ryder Cups and at the K Club in 2006 he produced one of his career highlights when holing in one - an effort later voted Shot of the Year - but he suffered disappointment in 2010 when missing out on a place in the team at Celtic Manor.

He started 2011 in great style, winning the Volvo Golf Champions event in Bahrain to end a 20-month drought, but the anticipated return to former glories has so far failed to materialise. By the end of 2012, he had slipped out of the world's top 100.

Career high: Casey ranks his win at the BMW PGA Championship in front of his home fans at Wentworth as a highlight.

Career low: He failed to convince Europe captain Colin Montgomerie that he was worthy of a wildcard pick for the 2010 Ryder Cup.

Quote: "When I was ten, I tried for a scholarship in tennis and didn't make it. I was upset, but then I found out they did it for golf as well. And that was the end of my tennis career. I've got a good forehand, but my backhand is rubbish. My serve isn't very good, either."

Trivia: Nicknamed Popeye due to the size of his forearms. Worked as a barman to fund his golf prior to heading to university in America.
