Rory McIlroy has turned down the offer of increased security at this week's Open, with the Ulsterman insisting he does not want a fuss.

With Tiger Woods absent from the third major of the year on account of injury, US Open champion McIlroy is the draw card at Royal St George's.

McIlroy has not teed it up competitively since his win at Congressional, but a string of public appearances have kept him in the spotlight.

Open organisers and his management company are aware there is likely to be major attention on McIlroy and offered to lay on added security.

But McIlroy is unfazed by the prospect of added attention and confirmed he was happy to be accompanied by a policeman, as is the norm at the Open.

"There will be the usual policemen on duty won't there?" he said. "That's fine. I don't want a fuss."
