As a rule of thumb, the events in the immediate week after a major are generally a little low on quality but with FedEx Cup places still up for grabs there is a decent field on show at the Wyndham Championship.
A 32-event competition has now been whittled down to a four-round sprint for play-off qualification and the riches that are on offer. The likes of Padraig Harrington (126), Paul Casey (147) and Ernie Els (130) are currently outside the 125 cut-off point, while Retief Goosen and Camilo Villegas have opted to tee it up in order to guarantee their inclusion.
Last year's FedEx winner Jim Furyk showed signs of a return to form at the US PGA Championship and he will be intent on improving his position, as will Ian Poulter, who has had a torrid time of things of late.

With so much at stake at Sedgefield Country Club, there will be a flood of players pushing hard down the stretch on Sunday and it offers the chance to take a view with a degree of confidence.
A player assured of his place in the play-offs is the eighth ranked David Toms and he is the bookies' favourite at 12/1. It is easy to see why he is at the top of the market, as he has found some real form this term and looked a genuine threat at one stage during Sunday's final round of the US PGA. He finished runner-up behind Arjun Atwal last year so knows his way around a course that will offer up a lot of birdies. But his chances are reflected in his price and we'd prefer to look elsewhere.
Webb Simpson is second best in the bet365 market at 18/1 and that looks a fair price. He missed the cut at the US PGA, to end a run of six successive top-20 finishes, but that effort on a tough course should not count against his chances this week. Home comforts will be on offer for Simpson who is based close by in Raleigh and he has course form to fall back on, having finished eighth 12 months ago with a final-round 63. The 26-year-old is still chasing his first win on the PGA Tour, but he has two second places this season and provided he can avoid the third-round blip from 12 months ago - when a 71 set him back - he could well contend on Sunday.
A player who catches our eye at 33/1 is Jim Furyk. For the first time in ages, at the US PGA, Furyk looked like a player who made off with $12.5 million for winning the FedEx last season. You could forgive someone for taking their eye off the ball a shade after making off with such a huge sum, but his ball striking was far more impressive in Atlanta last weekend. Yes he did fall away on Sunday, but his form in the last six weeks has been that of steady improvement and he can fire at the pins as well as anyone in the game - something that will be needed on a course where scoring will be low. If Furyk wants to make a major challenge in the play-offs he will need to find his best form and the Wyndham could be the place for him to spark into life.
