Thomas Bjorn held his nerve to claim victory at the Johnnie Walker Championship after a five-man play-off at Gleneagles.

Joint overnight leader Mark Foster was poised to end an eight-year title drought as he led by a single stroke heading into the final hole, but the Englishman bogeyed the 18th to force a five-man play-off.

Austrian Bernd Weisberger was the first man to falter after having to take a drop shot. Despite a lovely chip onto the green, the Austrian was eliminated after scoring a six on the first play-off hole.

Next to fall off the pace was Spaniard Pablo Larrazabal, who missed a putt for par to bow out on the second. With nothing to separate the three remaining players, George Coetzee, Foster and Bjorn on the third play-off hole, it was overnight leader Foster who stumbled on the fourth after struggling to recover from a wayward tee-shot.

With the decider down to the final two, the nerves began to show as both players found the rough, but it was Bjorn who clinched his second title of the year after Coetzee's brave attempt for a birdie from 40 yards wandered wide.

"I think when you set out in a play-off with five guys you're almost a little bit too relaxed because it takes a lot for it to go your way," Bjorn told Sky Sports. "But as we got rid of one at a time all of a sudden it became very hard but the way I played the last three play-off holes, I can't be more proud."

Ignacio Garrido held a share of the lead heading into the final round, but his chances of victory were scuppered by six bogeys as the Spaniard carded a final-round 74 to slip to nine-under, two shots off the leaders.

Defending champion Edoardo Molinari surrendered his title with a final-round 71 to leave him seven strokes off the pace, while his brother Francesco Molinari finished a further four shots back.
