- Presidents Cup
My focus is fine - Tiger Woods
Tiger Woods offered up no excuses following his mauling alongside Steve Stricker at the hands of Adam Scott and KJ Choi at the Presidents Cup.
Former world No. 1 Woods was in the spotlight for his opening match of the Presidents Cup as the pairings saw him come up against his former caddie Steve Williams - the man who had recently made a racist comment about his old boss.
There were handshakes between the pair, but precious little interaction. If Woods wanted to let his golf do the talking he failed miserably as he and Stricker suffered the ignominy of being handed a dog licence - losing 7&6 (a matchplay defeat by this score is so named because the cost of a dog licence before decimalisation in the UK in 1971 was seven shillings and sixpence).
Woods and Striker were completely outplayed and took it on the chin, but denied his focus had been distracted by off-course events.
"We were just obviously slightly off," Woods said. "We hit some good shots down there and he would be a foot in the rough or I hit a sweet drive back there on 11 that's over the green and he has no shot. You know, then you have to go after some of these flags which you don't want to go after, but we are so far behind, we have to.
"It's one of those things where we got down a little bit early, tried to make up some shots and these guys were playing well."
Woods added: "We don't have to worry about our focus."
