PTI Australia: Luke Donald debate

Luke Donald plans on replicating the success of his remarkable year by undertaking the same gruelling schedule in 2012.

Donald became the first man to top the money lists on the European and PGA Tours after his third-placed finish at the Dubai World Championship last weekend. The world No. 1 recorded 23 top tens from 30 events in 2011 and says he is aiming for similar success next year.

"In 2012, my schedule will be very similar, I'll concentrate on both tours. Obviously, being a Ryder Cup year, I'm excited to try to earn enough world ranking points to get into that.

"The only time I ever felt a little bit over-golfed was around the US Open this year. It was a mixture of maybe playing one event too many around that time and a mixture of going through a little bit of an illness.

"I had strep throat for a while and that brought me down. But otherwise I think I managed my schedule pretty well. I took breaks when I needed to.

"It's not easy playing both tours and travelling as much as I have done. But certainly it's worthwhile when you can come out and win both money lists and see the accomplishments," he said.

Currently in Australia preparing for this week's JBWere Masters, Donald says he has found extra motivation to finish the year on a high at the Victoria Golf Club. Donald, who studied art theory and practice at Chicago's Northwestern University, revealed he is a keen admirer of the Victoria's course designer Alister MacKenzie.

"(Victoria) looks amazing. It's one of the reasons I wanted to come to Australia. I've heard so many good stories about the sandbelt and their famous courses.

"I'm a big MacKenzie fan. I'd love to get further into golf architecture and I think this is a great place to start looking at some of the best courses in the world and I'm excited to be here.

"I just started my first project in Vietnam this year and it's something I'd like to get into further. Having a bit of an art background I'd love to do that," said Donald.
