Ian Poulter heads into the final round of the Australian Masters trailing Geoff Ogilvy by two strokes.

Poulter led the tournament on the opening two days, and gave himself every chance of claiming the title with a two-under 69 on Saturday. The Englishman started the third round brightly with birdies on the first two holes, but bogeys on the fourth, eighth and 13th holes proved Poulter's undoing.

The 35-year-old did, however, manage to claw shots back at 15 and 18 to remain well in contention. But the day belonged to Ogilvy, who fired a sizzling 63, despite carding three bogeys throughout his round.

An eagle on the first set the scene for what would be a memorable round for the Australian, while a run of five birdies in seven holes saw Ogilvy jump to the top of the leaderboard. The 2006 US Open champion made best use of his Victoria Golf Club knowledge, with expert iron play a feature of Ogilvy's charge.

Luke Donald carded another solid round of 69 to wind up five-under heading into the final day. The world No. 1 was again surprisingly wayward with his approach shots, though, hitting just 61% of greens which ultimately prevented him gaining ground on the leaders.

Ashley Hall and Nathan Green ended the round one stroke behind Poulter, while Australian Open and Australian PGA Championship winner Greg Chalmers heads a group of players a further shot back as he aims to attain the triple crown.
