Phil Mickelson has revealed he will not play in next month's WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship, as he is going on a family holiday.

Mickelson finished just inside the top 50 on his first appearance of the season at last week's Humana Challenge - won by Mark Wilson - but will not be taking up his place at the Match Play event in Arizona between February 22 and 26 - preferring instead to take time off with his wife Amy and their children, who will be on their spring break.

"I'm going to end up missing the Match Play this year as we're going to go on a family trip," Mickelson revealed on Sunday.

Mickelson has never enjoyed great success in the prestigious match play event, making the quarter-finals back in 2004. His withdrawal does open up a spot for another player, however, meaning the man ranked 65th in the world prior to the event will also make the 64-man field.

Padraig Harrington is among a number of players who could benefit from Mickelson's absence. Current world No. 1 Luke Donald is the defending champion.
