Justin Rose says he is nearing the top of his game after firing a second-round 64 to be in contention at the WGC-Cadillac Championship.

The Englishman moved to 11-under on day two after finishing the opening round three shots off the pace. Rose believes his round, which included eight birdies, to be one of his best in recent times.

"I think today was the first time in a while I put it all together," he said. "Actually (swing coach) Sean Foley said to me last night, he said, 'Your short game is unbelievable right now. Driving it great. And your irons are typically the best part of your game. So put it all together and you're in good shape.'

"I think today was the first day I hit some quality iron shots, drove it well and made putts; hence, 64, which is nice.

"Last Saturday, for example, iron play was terrible but short game backed me up. I feel like everything is working, and everything can sort of get me out of trouble and I don't have to rely on one particular part of my game every single day, so it's kind of a nice feeling."

Rose remains one stroke behind leader, and playing partner, Bubba Watson, as the pair charged up the leaderboard simultaneously.

"When you see other guys making putts, making birdies, hitting iron shots close," Rose said. "Sometimes you feed off it. Other times, you can get frustrated that you are not going it yourself but this is one of those great moments where everybody in the group kind of got it going."

Tiger Woods is another in contention at Doral after shooting a 67. However, the former world No. 1 admitted his ongoing struggle on the greens continues to hamper his attempts to claim a first Tour win since September 2009.

"I felt okay, I couldn't get the speed of the greens, that was the real problem," said Woods. "I played the par 5s well and my other couple of birdies were tap-ins.

"So I just didn't hole anything which wasn't great. I got off to a good start and couldn't quite keep it going, but felt like I played some good shots out there. Just didn't hole many putts."
