Rose determined not to surrender Ryder Cup spot

Justin Rose will use his 2010 Ryder Cup heartbreak to push himself towards securing a place in the European squad at Medinah this year.

Rose missed out on automatic qualification for Celtic Manor two years ago, and did not receive one of skipper Colin Montgomerie's captain's picks for the event.

But the Englishman is currently in possession of a guaranteed place in Jose Maria Olazabal's team, and he is adamant that he will not let it slip through his hands.

"It was a tough one to miss [in 2010], especially playing at home [in Wales]," Rose told Sky Sports. "I'm determined to make this team, not put myself in a position like last time where I need to rely on a captain's pick.

"I've got to keep amassing the points - I've given myself a great chance now, and I should play some good, solid golf and get the job done over the rest of the season. I'm certainly not taking my foot off the pedal."

Ahead of this week's BMW PGA Championship, Rose has hailed the state of his game, having won the WGC-Cadillac Championship in March.

"My game's been consistent all year and I think that's what I've brought to the table this year that I haven't had in previous years," Rose said. "The consistency's been getting better since 2010 and as a golfer, that's a definite sign of improvement.

"Confidence at the end of the day [has been the key], you believe your game's going to turn up for you when you need it. That's a nice place to be in."
