Colin Montgomerie has made his desire for a spot on Jose Maria Olazabal's Ryder Cup team known by professing his readiness to help the European cause in whichever way he possibly can.

The Scot is currently 99th on the European points list and 159th on the World points list, with ten players chosen from the leading spots on each list for Olazabal's 2012 team. The Spaniard will then choose two further players to add to the selection.

Asked for his opinion on how things may go at Medinah in the States in September, Montgomerie said: "I think it will be tough over there. The team will do well, very well. I think they will win but it will be close, as close as it was last time."

Montgomerie was also asked about his own potential participation, not just for 2012 but beyond, and replied: "At the same time I'd love to be associated in any way, whether that's as a player, one day, who knows? Or administrating, meaning vice-captain or captain again. Whatever it might be, I would do anything to help the European cause.

"If they want me, I'm available. I would not say no."
