Westwood moving to US in pursuit of multiple majors

Lee Westwood intends to relocate to America in order to give himself a better chance of finally breaking his major duck.

Westwood will buy a property in Florida and move in on December 27, having warmed to playing Stateside in recent years.

The Brit gave himself a fine chance of taking home the US Open trophy when he shot a 67 over the weekend, but a 73 on Sunday left him in a tie for tenth. The world No. 3 lost his ball up a tree at the fifth, notching up a double bogey at that hole, and was never able to recover.

But despite yet more major disappointment, the 39-year-old is still vowing to try everything possible to clinch one of the sport's most coveted prizes.

"People have been asking me how much I want to win a major for as long as I can remember," Westwood said. "But, to be honest, I've been in the mix that often I'd like to win more than one and that is one of the reasons for the move.

"And it's fair to say I've grown to love playing in America. It was amazing how much support I had out here this week. On every hole fans chant 'Go Westy' or 'Come on Lee.'

"And I am also moving because it's hard to practice when you really want to in the UK. I can see us spending the next five to ten years in America. The rest of the family are really excited about the move."
