Tiger not fazed by missed cut ahead of The Open

Tiger Woods does not believe his surprise missed cut at the Greenbrier Classic will hamper him heading into the Open Championship.

Woods was in top form heading to the Greenbrier, having won the previous week at the AT&T National, but he struggled to keep the ball under control and a one-over par score for 36 holes was not enough to get him in at the weekend.

The world No. 4 felt he was hitting the ball well, but struggled to keep the ball under control at altitude. With the Open being played on the coast at Royal Lytham, Woods does not envisage a repeat performance.

"I didn't quite have it," Woods said. "I drove it really good today and I just did not have the feel for the distances. The ball was just going forever. I know we're at altitude, but I just couldn't get the ball hit pin high no matter what I did, and subsequently, I made some bogeys.

"I was hitting the ball so far. I know it's hot, I know we're at altitude. My sand wedge is going 142, 145; wedge is 160. These are numbers that I don't normally hit. Some of the bigger guys hit those numbers but I don't, and I was really struggling to get the ball at the right number."

Looking ahead to the Open which begins in less than a fortnight, Woods said: "It's not going to be this warm and we're not going to be at altitude, we'll be on the beach."
