Mickelson a late entry for Scottish Open

After missing the cut at the Greenbrier Classic, Phil Mickelson has decided to play at next week's Scottish Open in a bid to try and rediscover some form ahead of the Open Championship.

Mickelson, the four-time major champion, has been woefully off the pace in recent weeks - missing the cut on his last two PGA Tour appearances, either side of a finish well down the field at the US Open, where he had been expected to contend.

With the third major of the year, at Royal Lytham & St Annes, just under two weeks away, the left-hander will make the trip to Inverness to gain some links practice before heading for Blackpool.

He has been handed the final sponsor's invitation in order to compete.

"I really have been off," MIckelson said on Friday, after missing the cut in West Virginia. "I don't know what to say about that.

"The parts don't feel that far off, but I haven't been putting them together.

"It doesn't feel bad off the tee, it doesn't feel bad with the iron play, it doesn't feel bad chipping or putting, but I'm making a lot of loose drives here or there, some loose iron shots here or there, missing some short putts here or there."
