McIlroy hungry for more major glory

Rory McIlroy has admitted victory at next week's Open would give him a bigger kick than his maiden major success at the US Open.

McIlroy appeared to have the world at his feet when destroying his rivals at last year's US Open, but his form has been patchy in the past 12 months. He has suffered a real dip in form in recent weeks, but believes he is back on the right path and has the hunger to be a multiple major winner.

Ahead of next week's Open at Royal Lytham, McIlroy said: "There have been a lot of guys that have won one major, but to call yourself a multiple major champion is something that not a lot of people get to do so I think the second one would be better than the first."

Much has been made of McIlroy's recent run, with some suggesting he has taken his eye off the ball. But the Ulsterman, whose girlfriend is former tennis world No. 1 Caroline Wozniaki, claims all players have dips.

"I think everyone goes through good and bad spells," McIlroy told Sky Sports News. "The last few weeks has been a time where I have not played my best. But I have still had a couple of top tens and it is encouraging that there is some good golf in there.

"I have made a lot of progress in the past few weeks."
