Scott Piercy moved up to 13th in the FedEx Cup standings after a final-round 67 saw him win the Canadian Open by a stroke from Robert Garrigus.

When Garrigus bogeyed the 16th Piercy and William McGirt were left to fight it out for the title. And it was Piercy who held it together at the crucial period, McGirt bogeying the last to gift his American compatriot a second PGA Tour success, finishing on 17-under for the week.

Piercy got off to a flyer during Sunday's final round, reeling off four straight birdies from the second. A bogey at the eighth checked his progress, before a string of pars saw him consolidate his position and keep the pressure on rivals McGirt and Garrigus.

Overnight leader Garrigus, who began the day with a one-shot advantage, was in a three-way tie for the lead but he could not recover from a damaging bogey on 16, eventually signing for a 70 to finish joint second alongside McGirt, who posted a closing 69.

Retief Goosen finished on 10-under after a final-round 69, while Hunter Mahan and Matt Kuchar finished on three-under and six-under respectively after a 66 and 70.
