Sergio Garcia's hopes of winning his first PGA Tour title in over four years were frustrated by the weather as heavy rain forced play to be abandoned at the Wyndham Championship on Sunday.

Garcia, who holds a one-shot lead in North Carolina, completed just four holes before play was suspended.

It was initially thought to be only a brief delay, but after more than five-and-a-half centimetres of rain had fallen in 18 hours, parts of the Sedgefield Country Club course were left unplayable.

While many of the early starters had reached the clubhouse before the rain set in, 38 players will have to return on Monday morning to complete their final rounds.

One of those to complete his final round was England's Paul Casey, who slumped to 10-over the card following a horror day. Casey's round of 75 included two bogeys, two double bogeys and a triple bogey.

Chris Kirk, though, surged up the leaderboard as he completed a round of 67 on Sunday to end the tournament nine-under. Kirk's compatriots Nick Watney and Charles Howell III also finished the tournament, both ending the day on seven-under.
