Love: No regrets for USA

United States captain Davis Love III insists he is pleased with the performance of his team after they went down 14½-13½ to Europe on a dramatic final day at the Ryder Cup.

Love's men held a four-point lead heading into Sunday's play, but Europe staged a stunning fightback as they won the first five points in the singles matches to edge ahead of their rivals. Europe made the greatest last-day comeback by a team since Love and his USA side recovered from a four-point deficit in 1999.

But the USA captain believes the momentum shifted on Saturday when Englishman Ian Poulter sunk five consecutive birdie putts to end the day on a high, giving Europe some hope of retaining their crown.

"Well it's exactly the same, the same score," said Love. "They came back and won. Give them a lot of credit, they played very, very well. They had a couple of hot streaks in the first two days that kept them in it.

"Ian Poulter's hot streak at the end on Saturday gave them some confidence and I know they built on that.

"I wouldn't have done anything different. They played great. We had a couple of matches get flipped there at the end that made it a little easier on them.

"This is a great team, we had a great week. We played together as a team and we said we wanted to win every segment. But we got beaten badly in this one, and any time you lose a segment that badly it is going to cost you the Ryder Cup."
