Tiger Woods has admitted he would consider taking on the captaincy of the USA Ryder Cup side in the future.

Woods' commitment to the team format has often been questioned and his record in the event is disappointing, 15 wins, 17 losses and three halves, for a player of his standing in the game. And he did not enhance his reputation, taking just half a point from four matches, as Europe produced a stirring fightback to win at Medinah.

For all the desire to win in the Ryder Cup, sportsmanship is a key element and Woods showed that side of his game when conceding a four-foot putt to Francesco Molinari on the 18th green of their singles match.

And it would appear that he would like to take charge of team affairs at some stage in the future.

"One day that would be fantastic," Woods said ahead of the Turkish Airlines World Golf Final. "It would be a huge honour, hopefully it doesn't happen in the near future.

"I would like to be able to play for a lot more teams but certainly one day when my career is slowing down or it's over, it would be huge to be part of a Ryder Cup from the captaincy side."

Woods also admitted he has apologised to the four rookies on the US team - Keegan Bradley, Jason Dufner, Webb Simpson and Brandt Snedeker - for his poor displays.

"I had an opportunity to earn three points in team sessions but I did not do that," Woods said. "It was tough."
