Justin Rose walked away with the £930,000 first prize after defeating Lee Westwood by a single shot in the final of the Turkish Airlines World Golf Final at Antalya Golf Club on Friday.

Rose held his nerve down the stretch to complete a one-shot victory, holing a two-footer for par at the 18th to clinch the victory - and the bumper prize fund - after Westwood had ramped up the tension a touch by rolling in his 15-foot putt for birdie.

Rose shot 66 at the PGA Sultan Course in Belek, as Westwood failed to replicate the form of Thursday that saw him romp round in just 61 shots.

"Lee played solidly today - but where the putts went in for him yesterday they burnt the edge today," Rose noted. "It got tight at the end though, he did what he needed to do and kept the pressure on me."

When asked how he would spend the money, Rose added: "What is my wife going to spend on it, I think!"

Westwood will perhaps come to rue a number of missed chances down the stretch - as the world No. 4 missed short range putts at the ninth, 13th and 14th that would eventually prove costly.

But the decisive moment perhaps came at the 17th as Westwood, a single shot behind his opponent after Rose missed a short birdie attempt at the 16th, hit his tee shot at the par-three inside his opponent but could only watch in horror as Rose buried his birdie attempt on top of him to double his advantage.

That left Westwood needing to make up a two-shot deficit at the last, a task that proved impossible as world No. 5 Rose hit his approach to 25 feet and successfully two-putted to close out the tournament

"The courses are great, the weather has been fantastic and the crowds have been amazing," Rose said of the week in Turkey, before being asked about his major aspirations.

"I'd like to think I'm getting there. I think I can become a more prolific winner in future, and hopefully majors can become a part of that."
