Rory McIlroy has scrapped his plans to take a break from golf, insisting that he "wasn't thinking straight" when he declared that he was contemplating time off.

McIlroy failed to make the cut at The Masters after finishing seven-over-par for the first two rounds, prompting him to say in an interview that he was considering a spell away from the sport.

After contemplating his next move, McIlroy has decided to remain on the course for the time being. "I wasn't really thinking straight, having just missed the cut in a Major for the first time," he said. "I was just off the golf course when I made those remarks and I maybe just over-reacted a bit."

The world No. 12 will compete at the Quail Hollow event at the end of April, where he hopes he will be able to turn his game around. "I will put in some good work in the next couple of weeks and should be in the right frame of mind go to America and improve on my performances," he said.
