Ryder Cup hero Kaymer joins PGA Tour

Martin Kaymer has opted to join the PGA Tour in 2013, over two years after earning an exemption to apply for the card with his US PGA Championship victory in 2010.

Former world No. 1 Kaymer initially turned down the chance to join the tour immediately after his play-off victory over Bubba Watson at Whistling Straits.

The German joins fellow Ryder Cup heroes Peter Hanson of Sweden and Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts, as well as England's David Lynn, surprise runner-up to Rory McIlroy at this year's US PGA Championship.

The trio join Kaymer by virtue of their PGA Tour earnings in 2012 and will all split their time between the PGA and European Tours next season alongside McIlroy, Luke Donald, Lee Westwood, Justin Rose, Graeme McDowell, Ian Poulter, Padraig Harrington, Sergio Garcia and Henrik Stenson.

Among Europe's Ryder Cup victors at Medinah, only Paul Lawrie and Francesco Molinari will not have PGA Tour cards next season - but European interest in the tour could be extended further still.

England's Ross Fisher and Oliver Fisher - no relation - are playing in next week's qualifying school in California, as are Frenchman Romain Wattel and Swedish duo Robert Karlsson and Alex Noren.

Ross Fisher has pulled out of the £6 million DP World Tour Championship to concentrate on earning his PGA Tour card, but Noren and Wattel will both return to the States after competing in Dubai. Oliver Fisher and Karlsson did not qualify.
