Lee Westwood is well placed after the first round of the lucrative Nedbank Golf Challenge on Thursday, sitting just one shot off the lead.

Westwood's Ryder Cup team-mate Nicolas Colsaerts holds the early lead at two-under par alongside 2011 FedEx Cup winner Bill Haas - after both men started the tournament at Sun City with matching rounds of 70.

Westwood is then a shot further back - alongside Paul Lawrie and home favourite Louis Oosthuizen - with five other players in the 12-man field at level par.

Justin Rose, meanwhile, has a bit of work to do after opening with a 73 - good enough for 11th place after the first day of competition.
