Fisher battles through Q School

Ross Fisher secured his playing rights for the 2013 PGA Tour season with a superb closing round of 66 at Q School.

Played over six rounds at La Quinta in California, the PGA Tour Q School is a tough affair - with just 26 places up for grabs.

Fisher kept himself firmly in the mix over the first three rounds, only to set himself back with a 72 in round four. A 67 in the fifth round eased the tension and he closed with a 66 on the Stadium Course which was good enough for second place.

"This game can go high and it can go low," Fisher, who has four European Tour wins and was 15th in the 2011 Masters, said. "Last year for me was not great. This year has been a work in progress. But it was the last year of Q School, and it was nice to create a bit of history to be one of the guys at the last one."

Lee Dong-hwan took the honour of first place - his closing 67 enough for a one-shot victory on 25-under, while Fisher's fellow European Robert Karlsson also secured his card.

There was disappointment for Oliver Fisher - the Englishman closing with a 67 to miss out by a shot.

Other notable names not to secure their card were Camilo Villegas, Alex Cejka, Heath Slocum and Vaughn Taylor.

Edward Loar suffered the torment of missing out after being tied for third heading into the final round. He was inside the top 26 on the 17th tee but dumped his tee shot into the water. He needed a birdie on 18 but again found water.
