Russell Henley broke the Sony Open 36-hole scoring record just two days into his PGA Tour career after firing a second consecutive 63 to lead the way in Hawaii.

The 23-year-old leads by two strokes after a bogey-free round at the Waialae Country Club to take him to 14-under. The last rookie to win his PGA Tour debut was Garrett Willis at the Tucson Open in 2001.

Henley leads overnight leader Scott Langley by two strokes after his round of 66, while an eagle at the last saw Scott Piercy move into a share of second on 12-under.

Matt Kuchar also eagled the last to sign for a bogey-free 63 to move to 11-under, while South African Tim Clark is one of a trio of players a shot further back.

Veteran John Daly survived a woeful finish to qualify for the weekend, but British trio Russell Knox, Brian Davis and Greg Owen failed to make the cut.

Starting on the back nine after his opening-round 70, Daly made four birdies to climb up the leaderboard, but his round began to unravel with back-to-back bogeys at one and two. Another bogey at the seventh saw him in danger of missing the cut, but he crept over the line with a birdie at the last.
